Agreement to Terms

By accessing and using Music Teachers Australia ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not use our Service.

Description of Service

Music Teachers Australia is an online platform that connects music students with independent music teachers. We provide tools for teachers to create profiles, list their services, and communicate with potential students.

We are a listings and introduction platform only. We are not a party to any arrangement, contract, or lesson made between a teacher and a student, and we do not employ, represent, or supervise any teacher listed on the Service. Teachers are independent and solely responsible for their own qualifications, conduct, working with children checks and other regulatory requirements, and the lessons they provide. We do not vet, endorse, or guarantee the quality, safety, or suitability of any teacher, and arranging and attending lessons is done at your own discretion and risk.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. If you are arranging lessons on behalf of a child, you must be that child's parent or legal guardian.

User Accounts

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

Teacher Responsibilities

As a teacher on our platform, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information about your qualifications
  • Maintain professional conduct in all communications
  • Honor the lesson types and pricing listed on your profile
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Create fake accounts, listings, enquiries, or reviews
  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your qualifications or affiliation
  • Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service by automated means
  • Harass, threaten, or send unsolicited marketing to other users
  • Use the Service to arrange contact with a child other than as that child's parent or legal guardian
  • Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the Service's security or normal operation
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

Payment and Subscriptions

Certain features require a paid subscription. By subscribing, you agree to pay all fees and charges associated with your subscription plan. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled.

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals but does not end your current billing period early — you keep access to paid features until the end of the period you've already paid for. We do not provide refunds, including for partial billing periods or unused time.

Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content are owned by Music Teachers Australia and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

Verified Check Badges

Some teacher profiles display a badge indicating that we have verified a Working with Children Check. That badge means only this: the teacher gave us a check number, and we looked it up on the public register run by the state or territory that issued it and found it current on the date shown.

It is a record of a check performed on a date. It is not an endorsement or recommendation of the teacher, it is not a background check conducted by us, it is not a guarantee of any teacher's conduct, and it does not discharge your own responsibility to satisfy yourself about anyone you engage to teach a child. The absence of a badge is not a finding about a teacher — most teachers have not submitted a check, and many have no reason to hold one.

Screening is performed by the issuing state, not by us, and a person's circumstances may change after the date shown. You can verify any check yourself; see what a verified check means.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Music Teachers Australia shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the Service, or from any lesson, arrangement, or interaction between a teacher and a student.

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable law.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales for any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service.

Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion.

Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
